The Strategic Metropolitan Plan of Barcelona (PEMB) stands as a model due to its ongoing work towards offering visions for the future, anticipating new challenges, preventing possible threats and, in summary, making proposals that strengthen Barcelona and its metropolitan area as the international reference that it is today.

The PEMB is a city platform that works under the premise of consensus and with the broad participation of both the public and the private sectors. It is a meeting point and vehicle for reflection among the municipalities, institutions and social agents that promote and contribute ideas for the economic and social development of the metropolitan area.

The approval of the new Strategic Metropolitan Plan of Barcelona – Vision 2020 in November of 2010, highlights the path we should follow with the conviction that teamwork, an entrepreneurial spirit and clear and achievable objectives will allow us to become everything that we want to be: one of the most attractive and influential cities for global innovative talent, with a high-quality model of integration and social cohesion. 

The proposal is bold but Barcelona’s history has clearly demonstrated its endless ability to improve its quality of life. Although the city is currently going through a severe crisis, this is precisely when proposals are needed to accomplish new goals: goals that must serve to take on the future with creativity, imagination and resourcefulness.
